Weber County Commission Recognizes Weber Parks and Recreation

Our office received a wonderful message from a member of our community, Alyssa Florack-Hess, expressing gratitude to Weber County Parks and Recreation for saving her wedding. We want to extend enormous gratitude to our Parks and Recreation Department for the amazing service work they do each and every day for our community.

“I wanted to write a message to say a HUGE thank you to the team at Weber County Parks & Rec. I had been planning a wedding at some family property in Huntsville for over a year for the weekend of October 8-10, 2021, and had about 200 folks who had RSVP’d to come into town.

Unfortunately, two weeks before the wedding, on a Friday night, my family member who owned the property suddenly changed his mind and told us we wouldn’t be able to have the wedding there. Panic ensued. We were devastated at the idea of not being able to have the weekend we’d spent over a year planning and thought we might just have to cancel the whole thing and head to the courthouse.

My sister got in contact with Ashley Earl, who was immediately helpful and responsive with the great news that Weber County Memorial Park would still be open for the weekend. We couldn’t believe our luck, and Ashley and her team were so amazing and supportive, quickly setting up a time for me to visit the campground with the campground host Don Brewster. As we walked around the beautiful campground, looking at the changing leaves and the lodge, my mother-in-law and I shared quite a few tears – realizing that this weekend would be even better than the one we had originally planned.

In every opportunity, the Weber County Parks & Rec team was accommodating, flexible, and unbelievably helpful as they rushed to save my wedding day. I just wanted to write to you here to let you know of the incredible experience I had working with this group of people and to express my gratitude for the important and caring folks working in our public parks. Most of all, I hope their team receives budgetary and policy support from you and your office for the important difference they have made in mine and so many other people’s lives.

Thank you so much!”
