Raised on a farm in Liberty, Utah, Julie Johnson kept busy tending to horses, cows, and her mother’s acre-sized garden. From an early age, Julie learned the value of hard work and dedication from her parents: attributes that she passed onto her four children. Each harvest required great planning, attention to detail, and consistency. This sprouted Julie’s passion for cooking, and she even owned a catering business. Julie’s natural knack to create, grow, and nurture transferred into her professional life.

“Julie knows how to advance bodies of work,” said United Way of Northern Utah CEO Tim Jackson. “She has a depth of community relationships. People come to her when they want to get things done.” In Julie’s 11 years at UWNU, she has overseen multiple areas of work that support nonprofit viability (Nonprofit Connection), community resources (211) and early childhood development (Learn with Playgroup and Welcome Baby).

As the start-up lead of the Welcome Baby Program, Julie took this core work from its infancy and developed it into a home visitation program that supports parents and children for the first three years of a child’s life. This year, under Julie’s leadership, Welcome Baby served over 200 families in five counties, 211 assisted more than 2,800 people with basic needs, and Nonprofit Connection supported 84 nonprofits with over $200k+ in community grants. As Julie transitions from Director of Community Resources and steps into the Interim CEO role, many are excited to see her work be able to take on another scale of community impact.
