Meeting Your Window Covering Needs—TOTALLY!
BY KENDAL RAE JENSEN
Totally Blind Window Fashions has been in business since 2004 and Liz Bennett has been running the company since 2008. Liz purchased the business because her sister-in-law had started it and Liz had interior design interests. She has a natural talent in interior design and a very talented sales staff. One of the things that sets Totally Blind apart from other window-covering companies is the fact that it is woman-owned and is a company run by women. Liz believes that being a woman entrepreneur in a male-dominated industry gives them a cutting-edge advantage. She employs numerous women that run the company, sales team, and design staff. She believes interior designers give a unique perspective—instead of the cookie-cutter building industry window coverings you usually see in homes—in a state that is being developed at a rapid rate.
Liz and her staff pride themselves on being extremely detail-oriented and in tune with their customer’s wants and needs. The sales staff takes extra time to introduce new concepts and ideas that fit into each client’s unique budget. At Totally Blind, they pride themselves on accessing the latest trends and technology in window fashions. Shades didn’t even use to be something that people would put in their homes. The only products that were readily available and used in the not-so-distant past were shutters and blinds. Regularly adding new products and their continual adaptability in the market, and in a struggling economy, is the company’s biggest success so far. They have implemented the best technology they can find in the sales and management side of the business. They have been able to overcome the biggest challenge to the company of keeping quality products in stock during nationwide material shortages.
Totally Blind is also one of the only businesses that have a showroom featuring only window coverings. Most other companies do not have a showroom that customers can access. They specialize in niche window coverings like cordless blinds, smart-release and motorized honeycomb shades, layered shutters, light filtering shades, and roman shades. The staff has a lot of knowledge in window fashions which can be seen inside their beautiful and chic showroom in Plain City. Customers can come in and browse through ideas and fashions and see the concepts in real life before making any decisions.
Liz loves to make people happy, do a good job at what she does, and always puts the customer first. She is a wife and mother of four active and growing kids—three daughters and one son. She is very involved in our community and is the head coach of the softball team at Wahlquist Junior High. She has been coaching softball at that level for nine years. She coached the softball team for four years at Clearfield High School and then was a math teacher at Wahlquist before taking the head coaching job and leaving teaching to start with Totally Blind. She is proud to have a business in Western Weber County and has salespeople in Weber, Davis, and Box Elder Counties. This enables the company to service clients in most of Northern Utah.
